Second set of Questions Prompt 2: Do you agree with the idea that evil is inherent in people, regardless of age? Discuss in relation to your own experiences as well as those in the book.
I do believe that because we all have evil thoughts once in a while. Its always around and anyone can access it no matter how good they may be. We are all evil at one point in our life because we are human and we can't control our emotions all the time. Evil, unfortunately, will always be around and is always a trait that can be easily used. I'm not sue how extreme the evil is we are talking about but up to a limit it is always inherent.
Second set of Questions Prompt 1: In the last paragraph, Golding writes “...Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of men’s hearts...” Discuss how this relates to the events that happened in the book.
In relation to the book "end of innocence..." I would think is in terms as literally the end of weakness and backing down. I think this was for Piggy. Piggy was an innocent harmless kid who only cared that they live and get off the island. But because he had nothing physically he was the weak and picked on kid. "the darkness of men’s hearts...” I think this goes hand in hand with the end of innocence because without mans dark hearts there will be no more man based struggles. What I mean is no more wars and there will be mercy and everyone will be nice. Almost like a perfect world.
Prompt 2:Suspend your rationale thinking for a moment, and imagine that the place you all know best involving established authority - school - is suddenly without teachers, Ms. Nadeau, etc. for an extended period of time (think weeks). What would happen?
I believe what would happen is authority would first be figured out like in the book. From this would become groups or society's. The cool kids there the not-so cool kids there and so on. But eventually, structure will break down along with society and people will get angry, hungry, etc. Since we are not adults we would not think things through until its wrong and we've done it. What would not happen is people trying to rebuild the education and learning part of school.
Prompt 1:On page 70, Golding writes that Ralph "...wanted to explain that people were never quite what you thought they were." Write about this, both in the context of the book and its characters as well as your own experiences in life.
In the book I can see that people are not what you think they are, between Ralph and Jack. Ralph had trusted in Jack to keep the fire lit and they had been good friends up until this moment. Ralph had believed that Jack could, and would keep the fire lit because he had promised. Ralph learned at that point that he couldn't be trusted. I think also this can be implied for Piggy. All the boys believed that Piggy was a useless, blind, fat. kid that couldn't do anything. Piggy was the one who helped Ralph and showed him how Jack was causing the collapse of society. I can see this in my life when someone will come up to me we'll have a friendly chat and moments later I'm hurrying to class. I'll say I was talking to so-and-so and they say something about how they've done this and this. I would never have guessed it and I did not know them the way they really are.
